The Hole Truth

A short story

Sam’s filling a hole in his garden, but his neighbors suspect foul play.

This short story is loosely based on an episode of the old Alfred Hitchcock Presents show, “De Mortuis,” which aired on CBS on October 14, 1956. This blog by Jack Seabrook has a discussion of the show, its script, and related matters.

The story starts with Sam planting spider lillies. The cover photo is of the flowers in bloom, although Sam is, of course, planting bulbs. His neighbors, however, suspect he’s planting more than just bulbs, as you’ll see.
